Boise, Idaho, is home to the largest Basque community in the United States. The Basque region covers several countries, including France, Spain and Andorra. They were nomadic people who traditionally raised sheep and other animals and have a vibrant culture that is not well known by many Americans today.

Short History

First settlers came to the area in the late 1860s, and Fort Boise was established. Later on, a small town called Boise was established by William H. Wallace. The city officially became the county seat in 1902 and is also Idaho's capital. This makes it an important city for the state.
